Floyd can be used as a dining table or desk. It is composed of two high-strength shells and structural foam in between the two parts. The shells itself are made of multiple layers of handpicked pre-impregnated carbon fiber mats (carbon fiber prepregs) and additional layers of aramid fiber (Kevlar) to ensure the necessary impact resistance. These layers are laid out in a negative mold and baked in an autoclave under vacuum and high pressure.
Either the upper or the lower shell receives a multilayer lacquer coating according to customer’s requirements. The other part gets a painting of several layers of clear coat which then creates the typical high-end carbon fiber optics. Thin sockets made of stainless steel (with plastic or rubber support) give an optical accent and ensure secure grip and stability.
Floyd is also available made of solid wood, Corian, stainless steel and fiber-reinforced concrete. In opposite to the version made of carbon fiber, these are available in wide range of different sizes.
